Bluffing
A lot of poker online players (mostly new players who learned poker from ESPN) have a habit of overemphasizing the act of bluffing. Yes, it’s exciting, yes, it’s exhilarating to take a risk, and yes, it’s great to win a hand without having good online poker cards, but the problem is that too many people tend to forget about that last part in lieu of the others. If you get too caught up in the thrill of pulling off a successful bluff by trying it too often, you’re going to end up seeing your bluffs get called, and you don’t want that to happen. Patience is a huge part of bluffing-you’ve got to be willing to wait in order to bluff with success. You’ve got to wait until you’ve established a tight image-if your opponents think that you never bluff, they’re more likely to fold when you do. You’ve got to wait until the pot is worth stealing-with blinds being so small in the beginning of a tournament, the payoff isn’t worth the risk to your poker chips as well as your reputation as a tight player. Finally, you have to wait until the right players are in the hand. Some guys just won’t fold no matter what, and others are just good at sniffing out a bluff. Make sure you’ve got some suckers in the hand instead of callers when you bluff.
