NTRP Rating Written Description and League Comments

1.5 - 2.0 You describe yourself as a beginner. You do know how to serve and return points but you haven’t got any tennis game consistency. You hopefully have figured how to keep track of score. You enjoy the game of tennis and desire to meet up with other people who have the same love.
Admin Comments: Recreational skill level, About 5% of the tennis players are in this skill level. You’re a beginner. We’d like all Beginner’s to participate in the Partner Program until they get sufficient experience to participate in the leagues.

2.5 Requires on-tennis court experience. Has tennis stroke weaknesses but is use to with original sides for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although tennis court coverage is weak. Can keep a little rally of slow pace with other tennis players of the same skill level.
Comments: Recreational skill level, About 10% of the tennis players are in this division. You’re an advanced beginner in this category. We hope the minimum ability tennis players have is to be able to serve and maintain a couple stroke rally.

3.0 Fairly consistent when making mid-paced strokes, but isn’t decent with all strokes and lacks execution when trying for leading control, depth or might.
Admin Comments: Skilled skill level, About 20% of the tennis players are in this skill level

3.25 You’re in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Skill ranking.

3.5 Has accomplished improved tennis stroke dependability with leading control on average shots, but still lacks depth and mixture. Starting to demonstrate more competitive net play, has improved tennis court coverage and is developing teamwork in doubles.
Admin Comments: Competitive1 skill level, About 40% of the tennis players are in this skill level. The majority of non-trained adult tennis players are at this level.

3.75 You’re in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.
Admin Comments: Advanced2 division, This skill level appears when the program’s league is big enough and we have enough returning tennis players. The addition of this skill level allows the league to fine tune the skill levels and the matches tend to be more evenly matched. Playoff qualifiers play in the Advanced playoffs.

4.0 Has good strokes, including guiding control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach tennis shots and volleys with some success. From Time to Time forces errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience.

4.5 Starting to master the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult shots.
