Of the Types of HDTV Televisions Which One Is the Best?
The market for HDTV televisions has managed to expand at blazing speed. Not only are many different models available, but there are different technologies that are used to power screens. Each one of these technologies has its own bells and whistles. Some of them have higher contrast while others are known for their long life spans.
While there are in fact more than six screen technologies in the market including LED and LCoS, the ones that are most known and more common are LCD, Plasma and DLP. Of course, they all do the same thing but in a different way.Plasma screens were the previous kings of the HDTV world until LCDs won the battle recently This technology is similar to Cathode Ray Tube displays in some aspects including the deep colors, high contrast and excellent depth projection. Plasma sets in the early years had a very short lifespan and could suffer from burn in quite fast. After some years in the market they improved in terms of reliability and lifespan. These screens are perfect to watch movies and recorded media. On the downside they require more energy to operate and even they are still prone to burn in.The technology that recently supplanted Plasma in the race for the market leading technology is LCD. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. These sets can display outstanding and vibrant colors. They do not have the refection problem that Plasma HDTV have and they are very energy efficient. If you decide on one of these sets you have to be sure the model is top quality since the performance of these sets varies a lot between models and brands. On good sets however, colors can be mesmerizing and very rich. DLP is the other technology that has had a fair impact on the market. There are two types of DLP technologies one uses one micro chip and the other uses three. Usually DLP is used to manufacture rear projectors and are of great value of the money to those that are interested in purchasing an huge screen. The do not have the image quality of the other two technologies though.
It is strange that even if these technologies are very advanced, they can not match the contrast and colors of CRT, the oldest television technology to date. CRT is still used in some regular televisions. It was used in the creation of HDTV sets but, due to their heavy weigh and the fact that they take a lot of room made manufacturers change their mind about this technology.
